Abstract

"When we think about the media, we need to think about it in the context of the whole range of ways media is entering children’s lives of which the new media is one part." In her presentation, Diane Levin assumes that children today are surrounded by a violent media culture. She investigates TV shows, toys and movies which are made to 'entertain' young children and which may, in fact, trigger "this steady appetite for violence at a very young age". One of the questions Levin considers is why children are often times so fascinated by media violence.
