Abstract

This essay portrays the development of tv-broadcasting and tv-advertising in the UK from the beginning to the present day. BBC, the first British tv-channel which was paid for by public funds, was soon followed by alternative commercial services whose main source of income was the selling of advertising time and space. But today, in the age of digital television with its multitude of tv-channels, prices for advertising space fall so that new forms of tv-advertsing need to be found in order to secure tv-budgets.
